Professional Pilot

Today’s aviation shows a significant gap between the requirements for a pilot license: the EASA minimums and the actual real requirements and demands of the profession. These are to safely fly and efficiently operate an aircraft in an airline environment.

Real world hands-on flight training

Today’s aviation reveals a significant gap between the requirements for a pilot license: the EASA minimums and the actual real requirements and demands of the profession. These are to safely fly and efficiently operate an aircraft in an actual commercial flight environment to accomplish a commercial mission.

Highly experienced instructors, modern aircraft, latest generation training devices & techniques, spacious facilities, a dedicated team & individual support throughout, to stay focused on the essential: your career!

A strong focus has to be put on Basic Flying Skills. This can only be achieved through a more robust and diverse initial pilot training

Scientific research, such as the Fleishmann Job Analysis, shows that due to the growing complexity of the aviation business, automation as well as the global aviation system, pilots require even more in-depth technical and managerial knowledge as well as resilience and management skills.

However, at the basis of airmanship must the art of operating an aircraft by sheer ‘Stick & Rudder’ skills must never be neglected. Throughout the whole syllabus, a strong focus has to be put on Basic Flying Skills. This can only be achieved through a more robust and diverse initial pilot training, than is the case with many ‘Integrated’ flight schools.

Airline Transport Pilot Competencies

Pilots’ competencies must be trained in an methodical modular manner. The objective of such training focusses on the transfer of the knowledge ensuring the student-pilot is actually able to apply it. That means the application in real world environment and aircraft.

The road to success is an integration of all related pillars, starting from the early stages of training in a modular ‘building block’ system

Another fundament of initial training is Human Factors. Fusing the practical flight training with Human Factors training creates a comprehensive experience interconnecting different competencies necessary for the profession.

Since the ultimate goal is to train pilots for the airline pilot profession (rather than just obtaining a license), it is crucial that students be trained by airline pilot-instructors throughout all phases of initial training.

Competency Based Training (CBT)

Scientific research shows that Competency Based Training (CBT) is the way forward in order to ‘produce’ fully competent ‘fit-for-purpose’ and ‘industry-ready’ pilots for the profession of airline pilot.

ICAO (and EASA) defined Core Competencies to address all pilot licenses, and are therefore a useful starting point. However, they do not address the pilots’ profession as such, and therefore need to be complemented:

  • For a successful airline pilot career, additional competencies are required, such as resilience, operational behaviour, and professionalism.
  • In addition digital skills and profound knowledge and application of technology – which in today’s professional reality are essential.

Strong Pilot Demand

There is a growing shortage of qualified pilots worldwide. In total, Boeing estimates that European airlines will require 122,000 new commercial pilots by 2041 to satisfy increasing demand. This is equivalent to training and deploying almost 7,000 new pilots per year.

These numbers far exceed the training capacity of all flight schools combined. There already is a severe shortage of qualified flight instructors.

SKY academy - FASTEST TRACK TO AIRLINE TRANSPORT PILOT

Each training program is focussed on Basic Flying Skills, UAS (Undesired Aircraft State) avoidance and recovery. SKY academy incorporates SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) directly derived and based upon the latest developments in the field of CRM (Crew Recourse Management), both multi-crew and single-pilot.

Our objective is to prepare the student thoroughly for the Skill Test and beyond to teach the skills required to become a confident and competent operational Pilot in Command.

Time & Money Investment

Most of the training is done at home through self-study and online courses:

Total flight training for all licenses and ratings will take 90 flight lessons at SKY academy. An average flight lesson detail, including briefings and ground school will take 4 hours.

Total flight lessons: 360 hours.

Provided you are dedicated to a minimum of 30 hours of study and flight lessons per week, your total time of training will add up to about 14 months. You will then be in possession of:

  • CPL
  • IR (SE+ME)
  • CR SEP+MEP
  • UPRT
  • MCC

This is the basis upon which airlines are hiring their pilots.

Some students decide to increase their chances to also pay for their own Boeing 737 typerating, which we can also provide for you.

Am I 'stuck' on something?

The agreement can be terminated prematurely; you are not attached to anything. The costs never extend beyond the lessons that have been followed and the costs that we have paid for you in advance.

The training does not have to be paid in one go, but you can ‘pay as you go’.
